“This is a good opportunity for us to be right on a four lane Highway 53,” Solon Springs Mercantile co-owner Meg Thoreson said.
It’s more than 16,000 square feet and open 365 days a year.
“We’re here to serve the people who live here as well as the people who spend a lot of time visiting here,” said Thoreson.
The Solon Springs Mercantile is a full line hardware store helping locals and tourists enjoy the outdoors.
“It’s an opportunity for people to shop locally,” said Thoreson. “They don’t have to make a run to one of the larger communities that’s three or 50 miles away.”
You can buy just about anything to help you complete a project, fish and hunt.
“They might be fixing something and they gravitate to the hardware side,” said Thoreson. “They might be looking to enjoy some time on the lake or river and so they come here for fishing supplies. They may be a hunter and looking for a new firearm.”
Their St. Croix room includes clothing and special gifts from living up north.
“It just really draws in most of our customers and they’re really intrigued by some of the unique gifts that we can find there,” said Thoreson.
Aside from endless possibilities and adventure, the Solon Springs Mercantile is probably the only hardware store where you can have a beer while you shop.
“For a lot of people it’s fun on a Saturday to just grab a beer and chat,” said Thoreson. “Meet up with people they may only see once a week or every few months because they’re visitors to the area.”
The Solon Springs Mercantile gets busy in the summer with people coming in to buy goods to fix up their homes and cabins.
