Maple Syrup Cans Lead to Pot Bust in Cook County

Authorities Arrest Man Along Canadian Border After Finding Pot in Maple Syrup Cans

A man from Alberta, Canada has been arrested for trying to smuggle drugs across the United States border near Canada.

The Cook County Sheriff’s Office says officers checked a vehicle at the Pigeon River Customs Station on April 7th after the driver told them he had five joints on him.

During the search they found cans of maple syrup that seemed too light and weren’t properly sealed.

After checking they found marijuana stashed inside them.

Just under a pound of pot was discovered.

Authorities say 45–year–old Maxime Lapalme admitted he was guilty.
