Two consultants were hired to put together a solid plan to get the Lake Superior Zoo on solid financial footing.

The HKGI consultants want to keep their focus on the environment and not on animals exhibits by implementing smaller attractions.

Another consultants brought forward two ideas both calling for a brown bear exhibit, indoor playground and more.

City councilors say it’s left them with a lot to consider.

“We need to clearly ask the questions how could we sustain that level of investment.  It raises the question of whether the city is in a position to support the level of investment required for a high quality contemporary zoo.  But, that’s a question that we need to be very cautious and very careful about debating because it will be a very large decision for the community” said 2nd District Duluth City Councilor, Joel Sipress.

The city was even considering closing the Zoo shocking the Lake Superior Zoological Society.
