Local Churches Learn to Beef up Security

Nearly a dozen churches in Duluth were burglarized last year.

Now Duluth Police are teaching them how to add some bite to their safety practices.

They hosted the first church seminar inside the Vineyard Church on Arrowhead.

Congregation leaders and members learned everything from outside building safety to asset protection.

“For a while churches have been a little bit behind the curve as far as security is concerned,” Duluth Police officer Russ Bradley said. “We’re just trying to give practical ways that they can actually maybe get caught up to the curve. At least so that they can continue to not be a victim.”

Officers recommend churches, businesses and homeowners take pictures and write down the model and serial numbers of things they own so that they can easily identify them in case they’re stolen.
