Off-Duty Officer, & His Oldest Son Killed in St. Michael

A relative is being held in the fatal shooting of an off-duty police officer and his 27-year-old son at a home in Wright County.

The sheriff’s department has identified the victims as 49-year-old Todd Besser and his oldest son, Blake.

Authorities say the Elk River officer had just gotten off work Saturday evening and went to the home in St. Michael where his three adult sons lived.

The father was found fatally shot in the basement.

Blake Besser was found dead in the kitchen of the home.

Investigators say the shooting is the result of a “domestic situation” and they are not seeking any other suspects.

Authorities say Todd Besser was living in Otsego.

According to KMSP, about 45 minutes after the crime was committed, 21-year-old Chris Besser called police to turn himself in.
