Red Cliff Police Seek Donations for New K9 Officer

The Red Cliff Police Department is kicking off a fund raising effort to provide a K-9 Officer to their Department.

In January, the Red Cliff Tribal Police Department began exploring the addition of a K-9 Unit.

So they contacted K-9 Working Dogs International, LLC. (K-9 WDI) to explore the possibility of purchasing a working dog and training a handler.

K-9 WDI is also assisting the department with finding funding for the new addition to the department.

The start-up costs are estimated at $24,000, which includes the dog, training for a Red Cliff police officer to serve as the handler, and initial equipment.

The nearest K-9 officer available to help the department is more than an hour away.

Officials say having a K-9 officer in the community will not only be a great asset to Red Cliff, but will also serve as an important resource for their surrounding communities.

They now need to raise the $24,000 in the next few months in order to make it happen.

At this point a separate fund account has been set up strictly for this purpose.

They currently have $3,100 in the fund, with an additional $2,500 grant award pending from the K-9 Working Dogs International, LLC.

They are asking for any assistance in meeting their goals.

Donations may be made to the Red Cliff Police Department directly and should be specifically marked for K-9 officer.

A donation box is also being set up at the Red Cliff tribal administration building.
