Among the numerous lakes and state parks in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan sits Aj’s Walleye lodge.
“The view, that’s why I’m here. It’s a wonderful view form this property. It has a location that’s key.”
Located on the north end of the lake, the lodge sits on Lake Gogebic, the largest inland lake in the U.P.
“The Lake is three miles wide and its eighteen miles long. It’s about 14,000 acres on the lake so when it’s frozen in the winter time, you got a playground out here. But in the summer time you have a wonderful area to fish.”
A lake this size can create some difficulty for anglers, but the reward may be worth the challenge.
“We have great perch fishing for example. There’s only a few lakes that have jumbo perch in this area.”
Besides perch, there’s, crappie, northern pike, bass, walleye, bullhead, burbot, and much more allowing for a fun fishing experience.
“We have a fleet of six boats, a new one that we pick up this week. We’ve got two fishing boats, we’ve got two lund fishing boats, and then we have two pontoon boats.”
Besides fishing boats, they also rent kayaks, paddleboards. But if you would like to tackle something else, this area has plenty of outdoor adventures available too.
“You know we have the largest nation’s largest state park, porcupine state park is here so we get a lot of hikers, backpackers.”
There are also more than 100 waterfalls within an hour of the resort and many of the visitors do waterfall tours.
And with many scenic activities nearby, Aj’s recently renovated several rooms to accommodate large groups. The bears den, which is the largest room offered can accommodate up to 24 people.
“We’ve had entire fireman, who have brought their whole firehouse up here and taken over the property, so that’s really, we are look to make this a place where families and large groups can come here to enjoy.
If you are into the natural resources part of vacationing, this location is one you’ll like. Waterfalls, hiking, and all the beautiful views available from the shores of Lake Gogebic to the shore of Lake Superior combine to make it a special place.
“I think that one of the things that we really strive to do is really to deliver great service. You can go anywhere to any property, but really we go above and beyond.”
