Special Meeting Held to Tackle Issue

Duluth School Board held a special meeting Tuesday evening to publicly take a stance against board member Art Johnston.

The board let Johnston know although he will not be removed from the board, they do not approve of his alleged actions.

It’s been an on-going battle for nearly a year splitting members of the board, as Harry Welty has been Johnston’s only supporter.

Johnston is accused of shoving Superintendent Bill Gronseth and Chair Mike Miernicki last summer

Johnston claims those allegations are baseless and sued the school district and five board members in federal court.

No word on whether or not he plans to revoke the lawsuit.

In regards to Tuesday evening’s censure this is what Johnston has to say,

“The saddest thing about this is that this school board and the superintendent could have moved forward and said let’s be role models for our community and try to put this behind us.”

Johnston proposed an amendment to the original resolution  – stating that all board members and the superintendent split the legal costs – his amendment failed 2-4.
