Construction Zones Expected to Slow Holiday Travel in WI

Construction Zones Will Slow Holiday Travel

State transportation officials say construction zones will still be a hazard during the Memorial Day weekend, even though work is halted during the busy travel period.

Wisconsin Department of Transportation projects communication manager Mark Kantola says work on state highway project will stop at noon Friday and resume at 2 a.m. Tuesday.

But, Kantola tells Press-Gazette Media that barrier walls, soft highway shoulders, lane restrictions and orange barrels will cause travel delays.

Some of the major road construction projects that could affect travel include Interstate 90 in La Crosse which is reduced to one lane in each direction.

Lane and speed restrictions are in effect on Interstate 41 in Outagamie and Brown counties and on Highway 441 over Little Lake Butte des Morts in Winnebago County, among other projects statewide.
