One Duluth gym honored Memorial Day with a special workout event.
IST Crossfit held a fundraiser for veterans’ organizations Monday morning.
Participants paid an entrance fee to join in an intense and competitive workout.
Proceeds go to benefit 23rd Veteran and Team Red White and Blue, organizations that serve veterans suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder.
“When you return from combat or off active duty you’re getting very little transition assistance,” explains Buffy Moncel, co-founder of 23rd Veteran. “You’re pretty much thrown back into the mix of your community. The hardest part is realizing that life didn’t stop when you were gone.”
Moncel adds that her organization seeks to keep veterans with PTSD active, so they can recover from ailments and addictions that often come with their condition.
23rd Veteran and Team Red White and Blue hope to make this an annual Memorial Day event.
