A Lake County non-profit that helps victims of domestic and sexual abuse got a big boost in funding Thursday.

North Shore Horizons was given an $8,217.01 grant to help fund the New Beginnings Supportive Housing program that provides on-site and off-site low-income units and supportive services for community members.

“Think about moving out the first time. When you go to college. Think about needing a can opener. Just your basics. So it will really help setting up those households and providing that extra financial support,” said Tara Golden, executive director of North Shore Horizons.

Last year, North Shore Horizons served more than 280 adults and children in Lake County.

The grant money was donated by Pioneers Charitable Foundation, CenturyLink Telephone Pioneers, and Arrowhead Council.
