UMD’s big research vessel launched its first-ever “Science on Deck” event.

It’s a free educational tour of the Blue Heron, as it’s called.

The tours, which are put on by UMD’s Large Lakes Observatory, will happen the last Friday of the month this summer on Lake Superior starting at 12:30 p.m.

“It’s so important for people to just be more aware of what’s happening — not only locally but globally — as far as climate, temperatures and water conditions,” said Lisa Sundberg with LLO.

The Blue Heron is the largest university owned research vessel on the Great Lakes.
