More Information Released in Connection to Sawyer Co. Deaths

Three Found Dead at Home in Edgewater Township

Authorities are releasing new information in connection to the deaths of three people in Sawyer County.

On Saturday around 11 a.m. the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Washburn County Sheriff’s Office from a woman who reported her son had shot her husband and had set their home on fire.

Washburn County then lost contact with her.

The address of the call was 16742N Knutson Lake Road, Town of Edgewater.

Sawyer and Washburn County Deputies were dispatched, along with Birchwood Police, Birchwood Fire and Ambulance and the Sawyer County Special Response Team.

Sawyer County Dispatch continued to attempt to make contact with the caller and was unable to make contact.

Upon arrival at the scene a male was found deceased outside the home.

That man was identified as Eric Werachowski, age 41.

The residence itself was engulfed.

Birchwood Fire Department extinguished the fire and two more bodies were discovered.

Division of Criminal Investigations (DCI) Fire Marshalls and the State Patrol Reconstruction Unit were contacted and responded to the scene.

Monday authorities reported the autopsies have been prepared for all three deceased individuals.

At this time they are awaiting positive identification of two victims but have reason to believe they will be identified as 62-year-old Richard Werachowski, and 60-year-old Marilyn Werachowski.

Richard and Marilyn were the parents of Eric Werachowski.

Marilyn succumbed to the fire at the residence and Richard succumbed to either the fire or a gunshot wound to his abdomen.

Eric died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound to his head.
