The proposed budget for Duluth Public Schools aims to put more money in the classrooms.

According to School District Officials, preliminary thoughts include another language immersion program along with support for a new online high school.

To support class size reduction and curriculum updates, officials say the district is looking to add more time for elementary teachers to meet regularly.

State per pupil funding under discussion by the Minnesota Legislature is anticipated to increase about 2% over two years.

The District expects health care premium savings to be at $580,000.

A final budget will be approved next week.

State statute requires school districts to approve a final budget by June 30.
