Hermantown Police Host ‘Bike Rodeo’ Teaching Safety

Nearly 100 children made their way through a bike safety obstacle course in Hermantown.

Officers explained bike safety tips and rules, like stopping at the end of a driveway and making sure a driver sees them.

“Wearing you helmet.  Knowing what other traffic is going to do and knowing when to stop.  Watching for traffic, using hand signals and making your left and right turns,”  said Sgt. John Esterbrooks with the Hermantown Police Department.

With school out, officers say this event is timely for the little bikers.

“A lot of kids are on the roadways starting to bike and learn the safety.  It’s something that our community hasn’t had before but getting more into it,” said Esterbrooks.

The kids also received a free helmet.

Officers hope to make this an annual event.
