Young ones laced up their shoes and joined in on the marathon fun Friday afternoon.

Nearly 1,000 kids, 14 and under, made their way to Bayfront Festival Park to be a part of the “Whipper Snapper” races.

It was 2-year-old Logan Cpin’s first race.

“We’ve been spending the last year or so getting fit in our family. So, we wanted to teach them just to do the same. So, this is a way to do that and get out and enjoy some family time,” said his father Peter Cpin.

Several mascots including “Champ” from UMD and “Viktor” from the Minnesota Vikings got up close with the kids after the race.

They even got official race numbers and goodie bags!
