Kiwanis Honor Officer and Firefighter of the Year

The Kiwanis Club of Friendly Duluth had several special guests at it’s weekly luncheon Wednesday.

The Kiwanis honored local first responders for their service to the community in a post meal ceremony.

The University of Minnesota-Duluth Police Department was recognized for it’s dedication and service to the community. 

Duluth police officer Michael Erickson was named Officer of the Year.

Erickson is a 16 year veteran of the Duluth Police Department and a 20 year law enforcement veteran.

Erickson previously worked with the Duluth drug and gang unit.

He currently serves as the Lincoln Park community police officer.

Firefighter Phil Just received the Firefighter of the Year award.

Just said he knew he wanted to be a firefighter when he was still in middle school.

He has been with the Duluth Fire Department for two years, and follows in the footsteps of two uncles.
