Bob Gustafson, long-time Public Relations Director for Grandma’s Marathon, has confirmed that he was let go from his position.

Gustafson says he was told he wouldn’t be back with the race on Wednesday, by new Executive Director Shane Bauer, who wants to take the marketing of the marathon in a different direction.

Bauer also confirmed the move, saying it was an “internal staff change, going in to the 40th anniversary year.”

Gustafson told FOX 21 he was grateful to Scott keenan for the chance to work with Grandma’s, and that his time with the marathon was “filled with fun, excitement, and memories.”

He says his favorite memory was Kara Goucher’s win in the 2012 U.S. Half Marathon Championship, run at the Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon.

Gustafson, who is running his third Twin Cities Marathon this year, added he may run Grandma’s Marathon for the first time next year.
