“I did the fireworks, I partied a little bit haha,” said Andrico Rolle from Miami, Florida.

For some the spirit of independence is still going.

“This is the first day after the Fourth of July that I haven’t had to work so I kind of like get to play a little bit,” said Angel Peterson of Grand Rapids, Minnesota.

Peterson took advantage of the three day weekend by hosting an Instagram meet up in Canal Park.

“So it’s been really cool and we’ve got people coming from southern Minnesota,” said Peterson. “It should be really, really fun.”

Lake Superior in the background, fun shops and eats made this area a big draw for locals and tourists.

“Went paddle boarding out in Canal Park today,” said Kenzie Fierst of New Prague, Minnesota.

“Paddle boarding was a lot of fun,” said Jason Decker of Winoka, Minnesota.

From the beach and the Lakewalk getting something cool and sweet was on the itinerary.

“It’s so accessible and it’s cold and after being on the lake,” said Decker. “It’s hot and you need something to cool you off and this definitely hits the spot.”

A holiday, extended weekend and heat equaled quite the demand for the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream in Duluth.

“It’s been really busy definitely with the holiday pick up,” said Ann Kleinschmidt with the Chocolate Shoppe Ice Cream. “We had people, lines out the door right out front here. It was a good time though.”

Flavors like zanzabar chocolate and raspberry rhapsody were scooped by the dozens.

“It’s just a munchie madness with a little cat tail of superman,” said Decker.

“I got yippie skippie,” said Fierst. “They have some weird names but they’re still really good.”

Really good, before heading back home to start the work week.

“I definitely recommend this experience,” said Rolle. This is my first Fourth of July here so I had a lot of fun. I would definitely recommend it.”
