Government Center Gets ‘Wild’ With Art

Duluth’s Government Center is finding a way to elevate the human spirit through art.

Local artist Ann Klefstad is sculpting the “Estuary Plaza,” which is the second of three different projects.

The piece will include a bench representing the St. Louis River estuary, along with other white cedar benches.

“Bringing the estuary ecosystem into the plaza makes it for me a kinder and more welcoming place,” said Klefstad. “I think that’s true for most of us. I think a lot of us breathe a big sigh of relief when we’re in a natural environment.”

The project is expected to be complete by the end of July.
