The new Dunkin’ Donuts location in Duluth has had its doors open for a few weeks, but Tuesday, the grand opening was official.

The new owners cut the ribbon with the Duluth Chamber of Commerce at a grand-opening earlier Tuesday morning.

The Duluth location is the first new free-standing Dunkin’ Donuts built in Minnesota in nearly 15 years.

It is the first of a planned seven locations that are set to open in the Northland in the next few years.

Owners say they are not surprised to see how busy the restaurant has already become.

“Dunkin’ has a really good name recognition, and that was probably a little better than normal, so we’re excited about it,” said franchise owner Brian Weidendorf.

The Duluth Dunkin’ Donuts also made a $1,000 donation to the Northern Lights Foundation.

Northern Lights supports the families of children with life-threatening illnesses.
