Friday night, people of Superior celebrated and honored cancer survivors, as well as remembered those who lost the fight.

Relay for Life of Douglas County was carnival–themed, and each of the 18 teams had a different game to play.

Since 6 PM Friday all the way through 8 AM Saturday, teams will take turns walking the track at Wessman Arena, signifying cancer never sleeps.

“It’s a great family, so people here find camaraderie in the experiences that they’ve shared, and it’s just a really great feeling to know that you’ve gone through something similar to someone else,” said Sara Mowchan, Community Manager of the American Cancer Society.

The American Cancer Society raised $36,000 before the event.

Friday night they hoped to break $40,000.
