Wednesday night, Glensheen Mansion began a new tradition for their free summer series ‘Concerts on the Pier.’

The performing bands will now jump off the pier and into Lake Superior.

Wednesday afternoon, scuba divers from the Great Lakes Aquarium conducted a preliminary dive to explore and find the deepest waters to ensure the safety of the jumpers.

“There was a good spot right here, right by the steps, to jump in. It was about eight feet deep, so they don’t have to worry about hitting the bottom, they could just walk right up here where the steps were and your head will be out of the water there and climb right out ,” said Aquarist Darin Reinke with the Great Lakes Aquarium.

The Great Lakes Aquarium wants to remind anyone jumping into the lake to always go feet first.
