Hockey Day Minnesota is finally coming to Duluth.
Three separate sources confirmed to FOX 21 Sports Thursday that the city will host the annual event in February of 2016.
As first reported by the Duluth News Tribune Hockey Day Minnesota 2016 will be co–hosted by both Duluth East and Denfeld high schools at Bayfront Festival Park on February 6th.
The Greyhounds will likely face–off against Lakeville North, though that has not been officially confirmed.
There’s still some question as to who Denfeld’s opponent will be.
A girls’ game is also traditionally part of the Hockey Day Minnesota festivities, but another source has confirmed the Duluth Northern Stars have not been invited as of yet.
An official Hockey Day Minnesota announcement is expected later this month.
Previous Northland Hockey Day hosts include Baudette Bay in 2007 and 2008, Hermantown in 2010 and Grand Rapids in 2013.
2016 will be the 10th Hockey Day Minnesota.
