Duluth has plans in the works for a 4th dog park in East Duluth.

The City of Duluth is looking to construct a fenced in area on Riley Road in Jean Duluth.

After multiple requests, the city has decided to push forward with building a park for everyone’s 4-legged friends.

The project will be paid for through donations.

“The volunteer groups do their own fundraising.  They help clear the area and make improvement and then pay for the fencing and other things,” said Manager of Duluth Parks and Recreation, Kathy Bergen.

The city is moving forward with developing a design plan.

After presenting the plan to the park commission next month, work will be done to get the necessary permits.

“There’s a group of people that really want one in their general neighborhood area.  But, there’s also people that don’t actually want a dog park in their area.  So, we have to be very careful and have public meetings to determine the right piece of property,” said Bergen.

Bergen expects the park to be open next summer.
