Spirits are high in Ashland, as new businesses and lots of development have generated optimism throughout the city.

One project in particular is the new fire station being built to combine the two current fire houses, both nearly 100 years old, under one roof.

Ashland Mayor Deb Lewis says after getting hit hard by the recession, this new life to the city was sorely needed.

“It stimulates the economy in a big way. The construction jobs have a huge economic impact for us, it keeps people working and more than that though, it develops some really important infrastructure in our community,” Lewis explained.

Other additions include a Culver’s, new retail shops, and the expansion of Buddy’s Burgers.

A Dunkin’ Donuts and a new community health center are coming soon.
