Essentia Health St. Mary’s is adding a new space for their teen and young adult patients to relax.

The Essentia Health Foundation celebrated the groundbreaking for the new pediatric solarium.

It will be a semi enclosed space with access to fresh air and sunshine.

The area will have lounge chairs, TV’s and other electronics to help decrease patient’s anxiety and help them heal faster.

“We have a playroom on the unit right now but it’s really geared towards younger kids,” Essentia Health Foundation director of annual giving and special events Charity Rupp said. “So we’re gonna outfit this space with teen friendly things as well. So they’ll be gaming stations computers, musical instruments.”

The more than $400,000 solarium was made possible through donations.

It’s expected to open before winter.
