CHUM and the Duluth School District are working together to help with children’s back to school list.
They’re collecting donations, backpacks and school supplies now through August 25th.
Families with limited resources will have a one stop shop to get everything their kids need.
“Even at that, families will still have to be investing in new clothes. Kids grow last years clothes and they won’t fit and they’ll need other supplies. We really just stick tot he basics. So, when the kids come home with the teacher lists there might be other supplies too,” said CHUM Food Shelf Coordinator, Meg Kearns.
It’ll also help the teachers.
“They would prefer to see their new class of children with at least some supplies too because those first days of school can be traumatic for a lot of people. So, it’s a great partnership that we can work with the school district,” said Kearns.
Last year, CHUM distributed 900 backpacks.
They hope to beat that this year.
