Temperatures soared into the 90s over the weekend leaving many Northlanders struggling to keep cool.

With Lake Superior and a northern latitude normally creating cool temperatures in the summer, many homes in the Twin Ports area do not have central air conditioning.

That means on the rare occasions temperatures do become uncomfortably hot, many people do not have proper means of keeping cool in their homes.

Duluth hardware stores experienced a run on box fans over the weekend.

Formerly full shelves are now picked over leaving retailers with limited inventory.

Some are venturing outside and taking the opportunity to cool off in the waters of Lake Superior and various area swimming beaches.
