A local foundation kicked off an event Sunday to help find nearly a dozen cats and dogs a new home along with honor the memory of a local animal advocate.

Kimberly Omer Holland was an Animal Allies employee who suddenly died in 2014 of an aneurism.

To keep her passion alive and celebrate her birthday, Kimberly’s parents and husband hosted a fundraiser for Animal allies on their farm on Midway Road.

An Italian feast, games and adoption opportunities were included.

“You have two ways of reacting,” said Kathy Resberg, Kimberly’s mom and director of Kimberly’s Cats and Dogs. “You can shut yourself down and you can be miserable. Or you can face this thing, run at it, face it and do something good. So that’s what my husband and I decided to do.”

Kimberly’s Cats and Dogs foundation was started on the day Kimberly passed.

The foundation provides services to organizations that help displaced animals.
