Run Like an Animal

Locals and tourists go there to see live animals up close, but this weekend it was an athlete’s playground.

The Lake Superior Zoo kicked off their annual “Run Like an Animal 5k Run and Walk.

About 250 people ran and walked through the zoo’s grounds and surrounding trails to raise money for the parks operational costs.

“It’s a very important event here for our community,” Lake Superior Zoo development coordinator Erin Mckeever said. “Not only does it get families involved, it’s a great heart healthy activity. But it’s also great for our zoo to raise vital funds that we need to keep this going. It’s an important part of our community.”

Post-race activities included a zoo wide scavenger hunt, live entertainment and food.
