A group of young international travelers have arrived in the Northland.

Members of the “Duluth Sister Cities International” are hosting twelve middle school students from Ohara Isumi City, Japan as part of an exchange program.

The trip official began with a picnic in Enger Park.

Participants told Fox 21 the programs are a good way to experience other cultures.

“When you meet with people from other places, and go to other places, you realize even though there are a lot of differences, you’re the same in many ways,” said student Rianna Amberg.

The middle school exchange is one of the youngest exchange programs available.

The group will tour Minnesota for eight days before heading back.

Ohara Isumi City will hose the kids next year.
