Officer Pleads Not Guilty to Harming K-9

Not Guilty Plea Entered in Carlton Animal Cruelty Case

An officer charged with abusing his canine partner in Carlton has pleaded not guilty to the charges against him.

The incident happened outside Black Bear Casino June 15th.

Authorities say 48-year-old Brett Berry, an officer out of Ramsey County was caught on surveillance video picking his dog up by the collar and throwing it to the ground.

The dog then ran between the two entrance doors of the casino.

The Carlton County Sheriff’s Office says that’s when Berry repeatedly struck the dog.

He’s facing charges of assaulting a public safety officer and animal cruelty.

His pretrial is set for September 30th.
