Candidate Announces Run for Seat Left Vacant by Representative’s Passing
Koochiching County Commissioner Running for House of Representatives
A northern Minnesota county commissioner has announced he’s running for the seat left empty after the passing of Representative David Dill.
Tuesday, Rob Ecklund announced his candidacy for the House District 3A seat.
Ecklund said “We are all saddened by the recent passing of our friend, David Dill. David was a passionate advocate for our Northern Minnesota issues and I enjoyed working with him on many of these, including expanding airport services to investing in our roads, bridges, and water treatment facilities. He will be greatly missed and I’m humbled and honored to announce my candidacy for the position he served so well.”
Ecklund currently serves as a Koochiching County Commissioner.
He’s also a member and past president of the United Steelworkers Union Local 159, is employed at Boise Paper in International Falls and has a wife and three children.
Minnesota’s governor, Mark Dayton, will have to call a special election to fill the vacant seat by March 8th when the legislature reconvenes.
So far Governor Dayton has yet to set one.
