Thousands of veterans across the county including right here in the Northland got help Friday at the annual Veterans’ StandDown.

About 60 providers set up inside the DECC helping soldiers with things like housing, education benefits and legal assistance.

“We do this every year to give veterans an option of a different venue to come and seek services,” Minnesota Assistance Council for Veterans outreach manager Paul Pedersen said. “A lot of times they may not want to walk into a business office.”

StandDowns were founded in the post-Vietnam era to offer veterans a friendly and non-threatening environment to receive services.
