2 dead, 16 injured after volleyball team’s bus hits car

(AP) – Two people are dead and 16 others were injured after a car and a high school volleyball team’s bus collided in western Wisconsin.

The crash happened north of Cumberland  on U.S. Highway 63 at 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Wisconsin State Patrol says initial reports indicate a car didn’t stop for the northbound bus of the Spooner High School volleyball team. 

Two in the car were declared dead at the scene while a third occupant was airlifted to a hospital with critical injuries.

The driver of the vehicle 29-year-old Tiffany Hostetler and 3-Year-Old Elenora Hutton, both of Rice Lake, were pronounced dead at the scene. 

The school bus was sent into a ditch and was partially submerged in water. The coach, bus driver and students were treated for minor injuries and released.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
