The Town Of Rice Lake will soon be changing all of its signs.

The township will become a city October 18th.

Town Chairman, John Goman said Monday the move was driven by resident desires following a proposal by the City of Duluth to annex the sountern two-thirds of Rice Lake.

The annexation would have left the residents in the northern third of the current township paying the tax burden associated with running the current town.

Residents did not want to burden their neighbors in with such a high bill according to Goman.

Goman said the annexation proposal had benefits, like better infrastructure and more resources, but the residents wanted to maintain their lifestyles.
