The City of Hermantown, the Hermantown school district, Essentia Health and the Duluth area family YMCA unveiled their plans for the new regional wellness center today.

The wellness center will be named the “Essentia Health Regional Wellness Center” after Essentia Health, who donated 2 Million dollars to the project.

“We wanted to do this because we felt it was the right thing for our community, and we felt it was very important to take a step in supporting our community in promoting better health and wellness.” said Dr. Daniel Nikcevich, the President of the Essentia Health East Region.

The site will be located where the current Hermantown middle school is.  The YMCA plans to raise more funds to complete the project.

“We will look at other areas of the facility to be named, the pool, the gym, places like that will bring naming right type gifts, and then after that then we go to the general community. “ said Chris Francis, CEO of the Duluth YMCA.

The primary goal of the project is to improve the health status of southern St. Louis Residents who rank below the national average when it comes to health problems such as diabetes, heart disease, and tobacco use.
