Range Regional Airport Gets Nearly $2.5 Million for Improvements

Iron Range Airport Gets Millions in Funding

The U.S. Department of Transportation announced Wednesday that they have awarded $2,437,539 for infrastructure improvements at the Range Regional Airport in Hibbing.

“This important investment in our transportation infrastructure on the Range made me think of my friend Jim Oberstar,” Sen. Amy Klobuchar said. “As the Hibbing Airport prepares to honor Jim with a display in its new terminal this December, it is only fitting we find this opportunity to continue building upon the foundation for safe and efficient transportation he worked so hard to lay.”

“Jim Oberstar fought tirelessly for investments in our transportation and infrastructure systems which are key to strengthening Minnesota’s economy,” Sen. Al Franken said. “These resources will improve airport safety in Hibbing, help create jobs, and go a long way towards updating Minnesota’s overall transportation infrastructure.”

“This is wonderful news for the Range Regional Airport in Hibbing,” Congressman Rick Nolan said. “This airport plays a crucial role in our local economy by supporting good-paying jobs in the area through business and tourism. And how fitting to receive this funding as we prepare to honor our friend Jim Oberstar – who cared so deeply about supporting our transportation infrastructure – with a display in the airports’ new terminal.”

The grant will allow the airport to rehabilitate its apron.
