The Superior African Heritage Community is asking people to stand behind a proposed renovation project.

The group wants to buy the vacant Carnegie Library at 1204 Hammond Avenue and turn it into a cultural heritage center.

A public meeting was held Tuesday to provide information about the project that would include a daycare center, teen challenge center, community advocacy offices and a commercial catering kitchen.

“This would give us a sense of home, a place where we could branch out from economically, educationally, and culturally in the community,” said Kym Young, with the Superior African Heritage Community.

The group will be unveiling its capital campaign within the next two weeks.

You can send your donation to SAHC Cultural Center Project, P.O. Box 1913 Superior, WI 54880.
