Groups Rally to Protect St. Louis River

Environmental Groups Call for Action

The Minnesota Environmental Partnership held a rally to commemorate the designation of the St. Louis River as one of the top ten most endangered rivers in the United States.

After the rally, speakers and supporters attended the St. Louis County Board meeting to ask commissioners to pass a resolution to recognize the St. Louis River as endangered.

“Here in the Minnesota part of the Lake Superior water shed, 10 percent of our babies are born with elevated mercury.” said Bob Tammen, a member of the Save Lake Superior Association.

“If you care about the next generation, if you care about children, you want to clean up the water so our babies aren’t born with that terrible handicap,” he said.

Sixty people showed up to the rally to give their support to the cause.
