Cyclist Dies After Being Hit by Vehicle

Superior Man Dies in Hermantown Accident

A 44-year-old Superior Wisconsin man was killed Sunday afternoon near the intersection of Lavaque Road and Morris Thomas Road while apparently riding his bicycle along the shoulder of Lavaque Road just north of the Morris Thomas Road intersection.

Police and Rescue Personnel were dispatched to the area at approximately 2:58 p.m. when a witness in the area reported the bicyclist had been hit by an SUV that had been traveling southbound on Lavaque Road.

First Responders on the scene immediately began life saving measures on the bicyclist, but he was later pronounced dead at the scene.

The 71-year-old Proctor man who was driving the 2003 Chevrolet Tahoe that struck the bicyclist was not injured and wasn’t taken into custody.

A voluntary blood draw was collected from the driver and will be sent to the MN Bureau of Criminal Apprehension for analysis.

The preliminary investigation revealed the south bound Tahoe crossed over the centerline and north bound traffic lane and struck the bicyclist.

The bicyclist has been identified as Richard Alan Brill, 44 years of age from Superior, Wisconsin.

Hermantown Police are being assisted with the reconstruction and investigation of this accident by the MN State Patrol.
