Superior Man Charged with Abduction of a Child
Superior Man Charged After 14-Year-Old from Suffolk, VA is Found at his Home
A 31-year-old Superior man is facing serious charges after police say he was housing a 14-year-old runaway from the state of Virginia.
Peter Diehl has been charged with child sexual assault, child abduction and using a computer to facilitate a sex crime.
On Wednesday, Sept. 23 the Superior Police Dept. received a phone call from a detective from the Suffolk, Virginia Police Department.
The detective explained that he believed a 14-year-old female was in the area and possibly in the company of an adult male who lives in the Twin Ports area.
Superior P.D. detectives, along with assistance from the Douglas Co. Sheriff’s Dept. and the Duluth Police Dept., began to investigate.
Information was gathered from Suffolk, Virginia as well as current reports from the Duluth Police Dept. involving a similar case with the same suspect.
Throughout the overnight, the investigation led to two separate search warrants at Diehl’s home.
That’s where officers say they found the girl.
Diehl was taken to the Superior P.D. for an interview and the juvenile female was brought in to meet with staff from Douglas County Health and Human Services as well as investigators from the Duluth Police Department.
Diehl was arrested and taken to the Douglas County Jail after information was obtained from the victim that the two had engaged in sexual situations on numerous occasions while in Superior and Duluth.
Peter remains in jail with his bail set at $100,000.
In court Tuesday, officials set another hearing for later this week because Diehl doesn’t have an attorney yet.
