Teacher Accused of Having Sexual Contact with Student in Superior

A teacher has been arrested for having sexual contact with her student.

On Thursday, Sept. 24, 2015, Detectives from the Superior Police Department and Douglas County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant on a Poplar, WI residence after information was obtained and developed concerning sexual contact by an adult female school music teacher and a 17-year-old male student of hers.

Police say the 32-year-old woman teaches at Maranatha Academy.

They say over a month or so time frame this past summer she, and a 17-year-old male student of hers, began a relationship which involved inappropriate sexual contact.

An investigation revealed that the two had engaged in this sexual contact on several occasions, most of which took place within the city limits of Superior.

Maranatha Academy administrators initiated the investigation after learning of the incidents from the student.

The woman was immediately placed on suspension and administrators began collecting information that was subsequently passed on to Douglas County Health and Human Services as well as the Superior Police Dept.

A search warrant was executed at a residence she lived at.

She was taken into custody and transported to the police department where she agreed to be interviewed.

Police say she did confess to some of the allegations and was arrested on three (3) counts of Sexual Assault of a Child by a School Staff Person.

The case is still under investigation and has been forwarded to the District Attorney’s Office for their review and charges.
