Essentia Health hosted a special conference for healthcare professionals, with a focus on diabetes.

The conference featured speakers from clinics around the upper Midwest discussing the latest in treatments for diabetes and endocrine conditions.

Conference organizers say one new treatment that’s taking off is group treatments – it’s where people suffering from diabetes meet in groups to receive treatment or educate themselves on their condition.

“It provides a support group, and the patients that have been in these groups have loved it, the physicians have loved it,” said Dr. Matt Luedke, whose family practice is located in Wisconsin.

Dr. Luedke was also a moderator for the conference speakers.

Essentia Health says nearly two million people are diagnosed with diabetes each year, and it remains the seventh leading cause of death in the United States.
