Zimbabwe Officials Will Not Charge US Dentist in Lion Killing

Officials in Zimbabwe have announced that they will not charge the Minnesota dentist who killed Cecil the Lion this summer because he was hunting the lion legally.

Police and prosecutors fought for 55-year-old Walter Palmer to be extradited back to Zimbabwe to face poaching charges after he killed the prized lion in July.

Environment Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri announced Monday that Palmer was cleared of any wrongdoing by authorities and would be welcomed back to Zimbabwe.

Palmer spent more than a month out of the public eye after becoming the target of threats and protests following Cecil’s death.

He finally returned to his Bloomington, Minnesota based dental practice in September.
