Face of Visit Duluth to Retire
Gene Shaw, the longtime Public Relations Director of Visit Duluth, will retire December 31st after eleven years.
Shaw’s career with Visit Duluth includes the development of the highly successful Tall Ships Festival, which brought in around 250,000 people to Duluth in 2013.
Shaw’s latest achievement includes initiating the campaign to push Duluth to the top of Outside Magazine’s “Best Outdoor City” list.
Shaw’s retirement, however, is going to be short-lived.
He is going to enjoy the work-free life for one week, before returning to Visit Duluth under contract for a year and a half to help out with the Outdoor Writers Association of America Convention being held in Duluth in 2017.
After that, he says he will find out if he can relax and not do anything.
Before coming to Visit Duluth, Shaw worked in sales at WDIO for ten years.
He says he had a great run of 21 years or more in Duluth and has met a lot of great people.
