New Movie Production Studio Opening on Iron Range

A movie production company says financial incentives from the state of Minnesota prompted it to open a new studio on the Iron Range.

Ironbound Studios Minnesota has reached a $2.5 million lease-purchase agreement on Chisholm’s historic city hall.

Mayor Mike Jugovich says the building is too big for the city’s needs, so staff will relocate.

Ironbound will build its studio in an old hockey rink in the basement of the building.

Founder Jerry Seppala says the production studio will be able to create movies, television shows and commercials.

Seppala tells Minnesota Public Radio News that locating in Chisholm makes sense because of the financial incentives.

Minnesota’s “Snowbate” program provides rebates to film companies for up to 25 percent of what they spend in the state.
