The University of Minnesota Duluth celebrated the second phase of renovations to it’s Kirby Student Center with a ribbon cutting and tour Tuesday.

The 60-year-old space has been upgraded to meet today’s students needs.

The new lounge has tall tables for charging laptops and phones, booths for group projects, and lights with sensors that power down for sustainability.

The space expanded from 3,800 square feet to more than 6,300 square feet to keep up with the growing number of students at UMD.

Office and meeting space was added during phase I of the construction in January.
