For those struggling and homeless in the Twin Ports, access to health care, child care, and other basic services can be very difficult.

At the Gimaajii building in downtown Duluth, an event called “Community Connect” seeks to bring all those services together under one roof.

More than two dozen social service providers came together to assist those in need Wednesday.

Program Coordinator Daryl Olson says there are more than 800 homeless people in Duluth, and they anticipated to see nearly 400 at the event.

She says it’s a big deal for those who come.

“Instead of people having to run all over town, get trickled from one call or one place to another, they can all come here,” Olson said.

This is the third year Gimaajii has held the “Community Connect” event.
